Why So Serious?
Why So Serious?
The Dark Knight:
The main thing I want to talk about is Heath Ledger’s acting, and whether it’s related to his unfortunate death. I think it isn’t. Personally, my favourite scene’s are with the Joker. Before, I was convinced that Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler was the best acting I’d see in my lifetime. I was wrong. Heath Ledger is impeccable as the Joker, everything about him is perfect. The reason I think it’s so good is partially because the film (for me, anyway) is constantly trying to be realistic, but at the same time, set in a fictional city featuring unheard of technology.
If you have no idea what Batman is, basically it all started as a DC comic which evolved into a now legendary TV show with Adam West. Finally, in 1989, Tim Burton made the first Batman film recasting the characters and completely changing the face of Batman into a much more darker atmosphere than previously portrayed.
Christopher Nolan does it again, Memento was amazing, and now this is fine directing. I think it’s because of the Joker his directing is so good this time round. Then again, surely anyone in the prescence of the Joker (by the way, the make up is superb too) would be inspired to have tinnitus-like sounds while the camera zooms around him crazily. Another good feature is that you don’t know anything about his past, unlike the old film with Jack Nicholson, not even his name. Ironically, the only tidbits of information you do get are from the Joker himself, an untrustworthy character. It is quite obvious, though, that he had a traumitised childhood and has a deep, incurable physcological illness. My main naggle with the film is the ending/end, incidentally, after SPOILER the Joker is caught (for the last time). They would’ve been better off not using that character at the end of the film, it also completely destroys the sense of reality Heath Ledger had been bringing the whole film.
Pros: Much better directing this time round. Make up department is brilliant. Special effects are mostly homeade. Clever plot deepens the Joker’s mysterious background. Heath Ledger is flawless, his performance makes me want to give this film a 100% rating.
Cons: The last ten minutes lose the point a bit. Batman/Christian Bale could’ve been a whole range of people. Mediocre use of a famous character.
I wanna watch it!
